A native of Roxanna, Illinois, Maretta Shelby was born on September 4, 1927, the daughter of the late Frank L. and Christine (Murphy) Miller.
Maretta moved with her family in the early 1930’s to Lebanon where she lived most of her life. She was a 1945 graduate of Lebanon High School and attended Indiana University.
She married Willard Herr “Sonny” Shelby on June 19, 1947, in Lebanon, Indiana. Sonny passed away on June 1, 1997. For many years they worked together at the family auto dealership, Shelby Chevrolet, in Lebanon where she assisted in the office until about 1981. For a number of years she worked as a realtor for F. C. Tucker and Century 21 until she retired.
Well-known and highly regarded in the community, Maretta was a devoted wife, mother, grandmother and homemaker who enjoyed her family, cooking, golfing and cheering on the Purdue Boilermakers. Her many friends enjoyed her as she was active in the community and as a member of Ulen Country Club, Psi Iota Xi Sorority, Boone County Realtors Association and the John Purdue Club.
Visitation is planned for Thursday, January 19, 2012, from 3:00 to 6:00 p.m. at Myers Mortuary in Lebanon, Indiana. Officiating: Rev. Robert Davis Funeral Services will be held on Thursday, January 19, 2011, at 6:00 p.m. at Myers Chapel of Memories, 1502 North Lebanon Street, in Lebanon, Indiana. Entombment will follow at Oak Hill Cemetery in Lebanon, Indiana.
