Kay was born on March 23, 1939, in Lebanon, Indiana, a daughter of the late Samuel Henry and Anna (Morgan) Hiestand.

She was reared and educated in Lebanon having attended Center # 1 and St. Joseph Elementary Schools and she graduated from Lebanon High School in 1957.  She also received a Bachelor of Arts degree in management from IUPUI.

On July 5, 2001, in Lebanon, she was married to Dr. Gary E. French who survives.  She was previously married to Ross Adrian Pauley in 1958, who died in August 1999, and was also the widow of George Eugene Elston who died in 1985.

Her work career included being a co-owner of Fabri Clean of Lebanon for eleven years.  As a licensed insurance agent, realtor and health benefits agent, she became a vice-president of Society National Life Insurance Company of Indianapolis, 1980-1986, working in medical insurance operations.  She moved to Tampa, Florida, in 1986, where she continued her insurance career with Prudential Insurance Company of America 1986-1999.  She retired there as a senior manager in administrative operations having worked in claims, customer service and human resources.

Kay was a devoted wife, mother, grandmother “Mimi” and friend.  Her grandchildren were her pride and joy and she took great pride in leaving them a legacy of love.  She loved spending time with her loved ones and friends.  Kay enjoyed relaxing with a good book.  She was always willing to help the less fortunate in life.  Special to Kay was her participation in church services as a Server and ExtraOrdinary Minister of Communion.  Kay was involved with several card groups and enjoyed traveling and wintering with Gary in Florida.  The family home was also a source of great pride for Kay.

The Rosary will begin at 3:30 p.m. at the mortuary.

Visitation is planned for Wednesday, January 18, 2012, from 4:00 to 8:00 p.m. at Myers Chapel of Memories, 1502 North Lebanon Street, in Lebanon, Indiana.

The Funeral Mass will be held at 9:30 a.m. on Thursday, January 19, 2012, at Myers Mortuary with Rev. Timothy Kroeger officiating.

Interment will follow at St. Joseph Cemetery in Lebanon, Indiana.
