Anne Werry

J. Anne Werry, 89, passed away on Tuesday, May 31, 2016 at Homewood Health Campus in Lebanon. She was born in Blackford County Indiana, on April 26, 1927, a daughter of the late Ralph Stallsmith and Lodie Reed Hannah (Smith) Stallsmith. Anne graduated from Hartford City High School in 1944 and from Michigan State College in East Lansing, Michigan in 1948 with a Bachelor’s degree in education. Anne taught school at Advance Elementary School from 1948-1949. She continued to support her Michigan State Spartans, especially during basketball season. On June 27, 1948, she was married to Paul Werry in Hartford City, Indiana. In 1950, she and Paul opened their flower shop, “Werry The Florist” in Lebanon. They continued to own and operate the business for thirty-seven years. After retiring in 1987, they spent eleven years traveling and enjoying life together. Paul and Anne celebrated fifty years of marriage prior to his passing on July 4, 1998. Anne was an active member of the Centenary United Methodist Church for sixty-three years, served on several church committees, and sang in the choir. She was also a member of Kappa Kappa Kappa, many Bridge clubs, Daughters of the American Revolution (DAR), Jaycees, Friends of the Lebanon Public Library, Meals on Wheels and was a Brownie and Girl Scout leader. Anne’s greatest joys were her husband, children, grandchildren and great grandchildren. Their family life was full of wonderful summer outings to Little Lake Chapman in Warsaw, Indiana. The cottage was their “Golden Pond”. Paul and Anne were blessed with many friends throughout the years, several of which visited them at their lake cottage. Anne, Paul, Bob, and Marge Crouse shared many good times together. Following the passing of their spouses, Anne and Bob enjoyed each other’s company for many years. Children are: Kathy Oehler and husband, Eric – Carmel, Indiana, and Dr. Paul “Chip” Werry and wife, Marianne – Lebanon, Indiana. Anne was “Mema” to her grandchildren and great-grandchildren, Kara Oehler, husband, Jesse Shapins, and daughter, Aiyana Oehler Shapins – New York, New York, Cameron Oehler, wife, Peggy Larkin and son, Robert Patrick Larkin Oehler, Indianapolis, Indiana, and Ian Oehler – Indianapolis, Indiana. Anne also had several nieces and nephews. In addition to her parents and her husband, Anne was preceded in death by her sister, Phyllis Sanfter; and brother-in-law, Roger Sanftner. In honor of Anne’s dedication to the community, the family suggests memorials to: Centenary United Methodist Church, 910 East Fordice Road, Lebanon, Indiana, or Friends of the Lebanon Public Library, 104 East Washington Street, Lebanon, Indiana 46052. Memorial Services will be held on Saturday, June 18, 2016 at 3:00 p.m. at Myers Mortuary, 1502 North Lebanon Street, Lebanon, Indiana. Visitation will be held from 1:00 until time of the service on the 18th at the funeral home in Lebanon. Arrangements are being entrusted to Myers Mortuary and Boone County Crematory.
