Age: 89 Married City of Residence: Crawfordsville, IN and formerly of Anderson and LebanonDate of Death: Tuesday, October 7, 2014Place of Death: At Wellbrooke of Crawfordsville, IndianaMr. Byron Devon Canine was born in Lebanon, Indiana on December 1, 1924, the son of the late Lawrence Herschel and Hazel Marie (Davis) Canine. He was raised in Boone County and graduated from Lebanon High School in 1943. While in school he also worked on the Canine and Davis family farms. He then graduated from Purdue University with an electrical engineering degree. Byron served in the United States Army during WWII and the Korean War. On September 3, 1950, he was married to the love of his life, Barbara Jean (Keeney) Canine in Frankfort, Indiana; she survives. He and his wife moved to Anderson, Indiana where he worked his entire career at General Motors Delco Remy. Byron was a beloved husband, father, grandfather and great grandfather who was proud of his family. He and Barbara enjoyed vacationing with their family especially the 17 years of annual vacations at Gulf Shores, Alabama. He was fortunate to enjoy an early retirement from General Motors and spent many years of that retirement managing with Barbara a thriving depression glass antique business, traveling around the country and making many friends and acquaintances along the way.Memberships: Elks Lodge- Anderson, Indiana Masonic Lodge 609 – Mechanicsburg, Indiana Kiwanis Club – Anderson, Indiana Funeral Services with masonic rites will be held at 2:30 p.m. on Saturday, October 11, 2014, at Myers Mortuary, 1502 North Lebanon Street, in Lebanon, Indiana. Visitation is planned for Saturday, October 11, 2014, from 12:30 p.m. until the time of the service at the funeral home in Lebanon.Interment with military rites will follow services at Hopewell Cemetery in Boone County. Canine and wife, Terri (Brown) – Crawfordsville, Indiana Jay D. Canine and wife, Teena (Manship) – Sugar Land, TexasEight GrandchildrenFive Great Grandchildren Deceased: In addition to his parents, Byron was preceded in death by several aunts, uncles, and cousins. In lieu of flowers, memorials may be made to any Salvation Army.
