Carol L. Haughton

Carol L. Haughton, 81, of Lebanon, passed away on Friday, June 16, 2017, at her son’s home in North Carolina. She was born in Huntington County, Indiana, on August 02, 1935 to the late Aaron Wilbur and Marie (Crick) York. Carol graduated from Thorntown High School in 1953. She then went to Beauty School in Lafayette, Indiana and graduated from there in 1962. She was married at New Hope Church in Frankfort on October 17, 1954 to William Joseph Haughton, carol’s father performed the ceremony. William preceded her in death. She had lived around Lebanon for many years. Carol was a devoted homemaker while her children were in school. She then began working at several retail stores in Lebanon. In 1999 she and her uncle Welcome Frank York began raising Alpacas in Lebanon, Indiana. Carol had worked with both the Girls Scouts as a Junior Scout leader and the Boy Scouts as a Den mother. She also enjoyed working with 4-H kids with fiber projects and felting. Her father was a minister and they lived in multiple places in Northern Indiana and finally settled in Frankfort, Indiana. Her mother was a Second Grade teacher at Jefferson Grade School in Jefferson, Indiana. Living in a small town during the 1940’s, she has memories of her and her oldest brother doing Paper drives to raise money for the troops, getting war bonds to help our country and the whole country having to ration supplies. She remembers having blackout periods/drills, watching her uncles go to war and the country coming behind our troops and celebrations at the end of the Germany War in May, 1945 and Japan in August, 1945. Carol was a devoted mother, grandmother and great grandmother. She loved spending time with her family especially her grandchildren. Carol liked sewing, crafts and working with Alpaca and doing felting. She enjoyed spending time in North Carolina with her son at the Smokey Mountain Meadows Camp Ground. She was a member of New Hope Church, Frankfort, WCTU – Women’s Christian Temperance Union and the Alpaca Organization during the time she raised them. Survivors: Children: Carrie Ciccolella and husband Frank – Kokomo, Indiana Terry Haughton – Bryson City, North Carolina Vickie Emberton and husband, Ronnie – Crawfordsville, Indiana Barry Haughton and wife, Lisa – Thorntown, Indiana Grandchildren: Julie Cope – Logansport, Indiana Traci Tinnon and husband, Derek – Brownsburg, Indiana Kristy Meneses and husband, Laz – Brownsburg, Indiana Wil Emberton and wife, Becky – Lebanon, Indiana Doug Emberton and wife, Mary – Macy, Indiana Joe Emberton and wife, Coral – Seymour, Indiana Aaron Haughton – Austin, Texas Blake Haughton and fiancée, Claire Tousley – Lebanon, Indiana Three Step Grandchildren Ten Great Grandchildren Nine Step Great Grandchildren Brothers: Marvin Eugene York – Bryson City, North Carolina Lowell Ray York and wife, Rebecca – Beulaville, North Carolina Several Nieces and Nephews In addition to her parents and husband, Carol was preceded in death by two brothers, William James York and Aaron Wilbur York; a sister; Marie C. York; and an uncle, Welcome Frank York. Visitation is planned from 4:00 to 8:00 p.m. on Friday, June 23, 2017, at Myers Mortuary, 1502 North Lebanon Street, in Lebanon, Indiana. Funeral Services will be held on Saturday, June 24, 2017, at 10:00 a.m. at the Colfax Wesleyan Church, 5724 US-52, Colfax, Indiana. Interment will follow services at Green Lawn Cemetery in Frankfort, Indiana.
