Carole I Ritchie

Mrs. Ritchie was born in Oxford, on September 2, 1925, the daughter of the late “Pete” Cecil Francis and Martha (Gillan) McClure. Mrs. Ritchie spent most of her life in Lebanon until recently. She was a 1943 graduate of Oxford High School. She then graduated from Methodist Hospital School of Nursing in 1946. She continued her education at Indiana University receiving her B.S and Masters in Nursing. She worked at Witham Hospital. She then was an office nurse for Dr. Jack Lenox. She also worked for Dow Chemical Company where she had been a nurse, Department of Crippled Children for 15 years, and was the retired supervisor of Nursing with the Indiana State Department of Public Welfare. She was married to Edwin Sims Ritchie in Indianapolis, Indiana on August 8, 1947. Mr. Ritchie passed away January 5, 2006. Mrs. Ritchie was a devoted wife, mother and grandmother. She was passionate about nursing; in addition to making it her lifetime career, she generously funded a classroom at IUPUI’s new nursing education facility and established an endowed scholarship that will exist in perpetuity to support graduate nursing students interested in pediatrics. She was an accomplished quilter and exhibited her work at both the county and state level. She enjoyed reading, gardening, and knitting handwork. She had traveled to Puerto Rico two times with her church to help with building projects. Visitation is planned for Wednesday, April 15, 2015 from 12:30 p.m. to 2:00 p.m. at Myers Mortuary in Lebanon, Indiana. Interment will follow at Oak Hill Cemetery Survivors: Carole is survived by children James Ritchie of Mesa, Arizona and Patricia Vonesh and husband, Patrick of Park Ridge, Illinois; Four grandchildren Ashley Toner, Karin (Vonesh) Kipp and husband, Michael, Kristine (Vonesh) Collins and husband, Joseph, and Michael Vonesh. Five great grandchildren Owen, Gavin, and Lydia Kipp and Jackson and Jude Collins. She also was preceded in death by a sister Elaine McBee and brother Thomas McClure.
