It is with heavy hearts and immense sadness that we announce the passing of Christie Anderson VanSteenwyk. Christie, of Fishers, Indiana, passed away peacefully surrounded by family on January 26, 2025. She was a beloved mother, grandmother, sister and friend and will be deeply missed by all who knew her. The oldest daughter of Daniel and Dorothy Anderson, Christie was born in Hinsdale, Illinois on April 13, 1949. In Hinsdale, Christie first discovered her competitive spirit as a swimmer, competing and winning meets across the state. The family relocated to Indiana where Christie graduated from Butler University with a degree in Home Economics - her professors nicknamed her “Stitch and Rip”, a playful tribute to her talent for sewing and her perfectionist nature - always willing to tear apart any project to make it just right. After graduation Christie lived in Germany before settling in Bloomington, Indiana, where she started her family. Later moving to Fishers, Christie’s entrepreneurial spirit shined with work at Marsh Supermarkets as their Chief Home Economist. While working at Marsh, she had her own television segment on the Channel 13 noon news called “In the Kitchen with Christie”, where she shared her unique recipes. An avid baker and chef Christie created her own candy brand “Christie’s Crunch” just one of many treats enjoyed by friends and family. A savvy and smart businesswoman Christie later found her passion in real estate. Above all, Christie was most proud to be a Mom. Christie is survived by her son, Judd Davis; her daughter, Melissa Swain (husband, Matthew), her cherished grandson, Beau; her sisters, Gayle Anderson (husband, Matthew Greenwood) and Elizabeth Anderson Shatner (husband, William); and her “fur babies,” Lucy and Jack. She was preceded in death by her husband, M.D. VanSteenwyk “Van”; her parents; and her brothers, Leith and Scott Anderson. Christie’s kindness, quick wit, infectious smile, and ability to laugh made her a source of joy to those around her. Her ability to make others feel important and at ease was a gift she shared freely with family, friends, and strangers. Those who knew her will remember her as thoughtful and loyal with a sense of humor that will leave a stamp on our hearts. A private memorial service will be held for immediate family and close friends at a later date. In lieu of flowers, the family requests donations be made to the IU Simon Comprehensive Cancer Center to the Thymoma and Thymic Carcinoma Research fund.
