Floyd Charles Newkirk

Floyd Newkirk, 94, passed away on Wednesday, March 9, 2016 at Homewood Health Campus in Lebanon. He was born on February 14, 1922, a son of the late Jacob Allen and Rebecca Mabel (Long) Newkirk. He was married February 14, 1942, to Venus Leota (Alley) Newkirk at the United Brethren Church in Indianapolis, Indiana. She preceded him in death. Floyd was a native of Boone County and attended Lebanon High School. After being married, he served in the U.S. Army Corp. of Engineers 17th Armored Engineer Battalion of the 2nd Armored Division. He was a World War II veteran having served in Africa, Sicily, England, France, Belgium, Holland and Germany. Floyd was honorably discharged in 1945. Floyd worked for Indiana Paper Company and after 39 years of service, he retired in 1984. He had also worked for Winkler Stoker, Hicks Body Shop and PR Mallory Company prior to being drafted into the service. Floyd and his twin brother became national television stars by being picked to do commercials for Frito-Lay. He and his twin enjoyed making personal appearances at schools and several clubs to let them know how they were picked for the national commercial. Floyd was a loving husband, father, grandfather and great grandfather. Memberships: American Legion of Lebanon V.F.W. of Lebanon National Bowlers Hall of Fame Screen Actors Guild in Hollywood Funeral Services will be held on Saturday, March 12, 2016 at 10:30 a.m. at Myers Mortuary, 1502 North Lebanon Street, Lebanon, Indiana. Visitation is planned for Friday, March 11, 2016, from 4:00 to 8:00 p.m. at the funeral home in Lebanon. Interment with Military Rites will follow at Lincoln Memory Gardens in Whitestown, Indiana.
