Frances E. Honan Herr

Frances Honan Herr, died peacefully on December 29, 2019. Fran was preceded in death by Sam Herr, her husband of 49 years. She is the mother of Ann Mitchell (Jerry), David Herr (Erin), Mary Beth Herr and the proud grandmother of eight grandchildren - Matt, Ben (Chanelle), Caitlin, Mike, Sam, Lucy, Fred and Thomas. Fran had a wonderful sense of humor and employed a strong Irish wit. Together she and Sam provided many years of fun and entertainment for their family and friends. They were hosts to lively neighborhood barn dances, featuring Davey Jones as caller for square dancing; Christmas parties complete with Santa visits for their kids and grandkids; and festive July 4th celebrations ending with a rousing sparkler parade with all the grandkids following Fran’s lead. Central to Fran’s life was St. Joe’s Catholic Church. She and her brothers, Larry and Tom Honan, attended St. Joe’s school through 8th grade. As an active parishioner throughout her life, Fran was most especially committed to visiting the elderly. She was a wonderful example to her family in that way. Additionally, Fran was a charter member of the Witham Hospital Volunteer organization having joined at the invitation of fellow charter member, Vivian Myers. She faithfully served that organization for over 30 years. An accomplished calligrapher, Fran enjoyed honing her craft through her participation as a member of the Indianapolis Calligraphy Guild. Letters and cards from Fran were a true delight to each and every recipient. Sam and Fran shared a love of travel and took their family on many extended driving trips across the United States. Having raised their family, they continued to especially enjoy traveling by train across the western U.S. and into Banff National Park and British Columbia, Canada. Funeral Mass is planned for 11:00 a.m. on Thursday, January 9, 2019 at St. Joseph Roman Catholic Church, 319 East South Street, Lebanon, Indiana. Visitation will be held from 9:00 a.m. until the time of service on Thursday, January 9th at the church in Lebanon. Memorials may be made in Fran’s honor to Second Helpings, 1121 Southeastern Ave, Indianapolis, IN 46202. Myers Mortuary and Boone County Crematory have been entrusted with her care.
