George W. Dehn

Mr. George Walter Dehn, 90, of Lebanon, passed away on Wednesday, July 20, 2016, at St. Vincent Hospital in Indianapolis. He was born in Detroit, Michigan, July 24, 1925, a son of the late George William and Anna Barbara (Wittman) Dehn. He was a 1943 graduate of Arsenal Technical High School in Indianapolis. Following school, George served in the European Theatre during WWII. On May 18, 1946, he was married to Shirley Elaine (Williams) Dehn in Indianapolis. She preceded him in death just three weeks ago on June 29, 2016. They had spent 70 loving years together. In 1957, George and Shirley moved to Lebanon. They began their member ship at St. Peter’s Episcopal Church. He was a proud member of the American Legion, the Musicians Union, President of Sertoma, and was named Boone County Senior Citizen of the Year in 1994. George was a salesman and professional musician. His music was enjoyed by many for several decades. He also taught saxophone and clarinet for many years. For a period of time, George worked as a driver for Boone County Senior Services and helped as an election official at local polling stations. He and his wife also volunteered as hosts for the Alaskan State Parks campgrounds. He was a dedicated family man and loved his wife, children, grandchildren, and great grandchildren dearly. Memorial Services are to be held at 1:00 p.m. on Wednesday, July 27, 2016, at St. Peter’s Episcopal Church, 950 East Washington Street, in Lebanon, Indiana, with Rev. Gordon Chastain, officiating. Visitation is planned from 11:00 a.m. until the time of the service on Wednesday at the church in Lebanon. Interment with military rites will follow at Oak Hill Cemetery in Lebanon, Indiana. Myers Mortuary and Boone County Crematory of Lebanon are handling the arrangements. Survivors: Four Children: Cheryl “Cherie” Donaldson and husband, Bob – Lizton, Indiana Robert “Bob” Dehn and wife, Carmel – Wasilla, Alaska Barbara “Barbi” Moore and husband, Frank – Lebanon, Indiana Elizabeth “Beth” Rutan and husband, Scott – Indianapolis, Indiana Special Nephew: Johnny Williams – Burlington, Washington Six Grandchildren and six step grandchildren Seven Great Grandchildren and 15 step great grandchildren Several Nieces and Nephews and God Children In addition to his parents and his wife, George was preceded in death by a brother, Bill Wittman Dehn. Memorials may be made in his honor to St. Peter’s Episcopal Church, 950 East Washington Street, Lebanon, Indiana 46052.
