Helen Young

Helen Lucile "Bubu" Young, 96, of Huntington, passed away on September 25, 2016 at Heritage Pointe Warren, IN. She was born on July 29, 1920 in Boone County, Indiana. Her early years were spent near Dover, moving to Lebanon in 1965. She later resided in Anderson and Huntington with her family. She was a proud 1938 Dover High School graduate. She married Charles William Young on Oct. 25, 1938. Helen was an obstetrics nursing assistant at Witham Hospital for 37 years, retiring in 1986. She devoted her life to her family. She was the longest living member of the Dover Christian Church. She also attended East Lynn Christian Church, Anderson. She was active in the Dover Ladies Aid, Lebanette Club, and played in the Top of the Hill Band, She was also a member of the Boone County Extension Choir and participated in Al Stewart's chorale performances at the annual Extension Conferences held at Purdue. She was a member of the Christian's Women's Temperance Union and Witham Retirees. She enjoyed hosting the Slim or Sloppy Tops Club Christmas Party for 25 years and a neighbor's party for 20 years. She never passed up an opportunity to travel or read. Helen is survived by her, son, Dr. Sam K. (Judith) Young of Huntington, IN, grandchildren, Cheryl (Kevin) Brandt of Logansport; Lynn (Lamar) Fogle of Anderson; Charles Eric (Samantha) Young of Wheaton, IL; and Damon (Ginger) Young of Greendale; WI; great-grandchildren, Kayla Renee Brandt, Lindsey Marie Fogle, Jamisen Lexandra Fogle, Charles Isaac Young, Adeline Delaney Young, Rachel Kathleen Young and Thomas Raymond Young; sister-in-law, Donna Hines; several nieces and nephews, many extended family members and friends. She was preceded in death by her husband, Charles William Young on March 23, 1945; mother, Hallie Bernice Pickering; father, Bruce Clay Pickering; brothers and sisters-in-law, Walter and Jane Ann Pickering, Wayne and Dorthea Pickering, and infant brother, Marvin Pickering. Visitation will be held Friday, Sept. 30, 2016 from 3-7pm at Loose Funeral Homes & Crematory, 200 West 53rd Street, Anderson, IN. Services will be held on Saturday, Oct. 1, 2016 at 1pm with visitation 2 hours prior at Myers Mortuary, 1502 North Lebanon Street, Lebanon, IN 46052, with Dr. Sam Young officiating.
