Jean Hutchens

After a lengthy battle with cancer, Doris Jean Hutchens, 86, passed away peacefully on Sunday, December 20, 2015, at her residence in Thorntown, with her family by her side. She was born March 22, 1929, in Bridgeton, Indiana, a daughter of Harvey and Mary (Bolen) Adams. Raised in Bridgeton, Jean was a graduate of Bridgeton High School. On May 17, 1947, she was married to O. Jack Hutchens in Parke County, Indiana. The couple moved to Thorntown in 1953. Jack and Jean always reflected Christ’s love for others. They went on numerous work trips to areas hit by disaster and helped rebuild or clean up homes. These mission trips exemplified the couples’ passion. They celebrated their 50th anniversary in 1997. He passed away December 4, 2002. Jean had worked for Allen’s Regal Grocery Store and Home National Bank where she began as a teller and retired a bookkeeper. She was an avid jigsaw puzzler, reader, and loved watching sports, especially the Pacers and the Colts. She faithfully followed her grandchildren through their high school sports and activities. Living for Jesus was first and foremost in Jean’s life. The love and devotion she had for her family was shared with everyone even through her illness. She was a fighter and a brave lady. Memberships: One Way Christian Church PEO Sisterhood, Chapter A TERA (Thorntown Emergency Relief Association) Treasurer Visitation is planned for Wednesday, December 23, 2015 from 10:00 a.m. to 1:00 p.m. at Myers and Hunt Mortuary, 116 West Plum Street, in Thorntown Indiana. Funeral Services will be held at 1:00 p.m., Wednesday, at the funeral home in Thorntown, with Pastor Tom Evans, officiating. Interment will follow services at Sugar Plains Cemetery in Thorntown. Survivors: Three Children: Linda Kay Tribbett – Lafayette, Indiana Vicki Randel and husband, John – Thorntown, Indiana Jack Hutchens and wife, Lori – Thorntown, Indiana Six Grandchildren: Missy Freels and husband, Tim – Lafayette, Indiana Chris Harth – Topeka, Kansas Joni Edwards and husband, Rich – Fishers, Indiana Laci Ledbetter – Fishers, Indiana Lauren Riley and husband, Andre – Fishers, Indiana Evan Hutchens – Montreal, Canada Nine Great Grandchildren: Riley Harth Brittany Poore and husband, Colin Lindsey Freels Michael Freels Jack Edwards Jordan Edwards Lennon Ledbetter Tatum Ledbetter Grady Ledbetter Two Great Great Grandchildren: Quinn Poore Remy Freels Sister: Wilma Millemon – Greencastle, Indiana Several Nieces and Nephews In addition to her parents and husband, Jean was preceded in death by two brothers and two sisters.
