John Norris Spidel III

Mr. John Norris Spidel, III, 96, passed away on Wednesday, April 22, 2015 at Homewood Health Campus in Lebanon, Indiana. He was born on July 9, 1918 in Sheridan, Indiana, a son of the late John Norris, II and Lydia H. (Hancock) Spidel. John was raised and educated in Sheridan, graduating in 1937. He was married in Rockville, Indiana on October 4, 1937 to Marjorie Ann (Neal) Spidel. Mrs. Spidel passed away November 7, 2009. Following his marriage, he had lived in Anderson for a year and moved to the Lebanon area in 1939 where he had since resided. John had worked at Delco-Remy in Anderson. He then worked for Winklers U.S. Machine which became Stewart – Warner from 1939-1977 when the Lebanon plant closed. He transferred to Stewart – Warner Southwind division working 7 more years until retiring in 1984, with 45 years of service. John also worked for the safety patrol at the Indianapolis 500 for 28 years. As a devoted husband, father, grandfather, he enjoyed his family, took pride in his children and grandchildren. In addition, he enjoyed hunting, traveling and was an avid sports fan. Memberships: Order of Eastern Star in Kirklin Siloam Lodge # 609 F & AM in Mechanicsburg Indianapolis Scottish Rites Murat Shrine Boy Scout Troop Leader in Mechanicsburg Funeral Services with Masonic Rites are planned for Saturday, April 25, 2015 at 11:00 a.m., at Myers Mortuary, 1502 North Lebanon Street, in Lebanon, Indiana. Visitation will be held from 9:00 a.m. until the time of the service on Saturday at the funeral home in Lebanon. Interment will follow services at Oak Hill Cemetery in Lebanon. Spidel and wife, Debby - Lebanon, Indiana William J. Spidel and wife, Helen – Crawfordsville, Indiana Michael G. Spidel and wife, Tammy – Lebanon, Indiana Donna S. Ross and husband, Robert, II – Lebanon, Indiana John McIntyre and wife, Shelly – Lebanon, Indiana Jason McIntyre – Lebanon, Indiana Callie Rogers – Lafayette, Indiana Several Great Grandchildren and Great Great Grandchildren Several Nieces and Nephews and Great Nieces and Great Nephews Deceased: In addition to his parents and his wife, John was preceded in death by a son Don Neal Spidel; three brothers, George Spidel, Glen Spidel, and Joel Spidel; and two sisters, Caroline Spidel and Bertha Sandlin. Memorials may be made in his honor to the charity of the donor’s choice.
