Age: 84 Married City of Residence: Lebanon, IndianaDate of Death: Thursday, January 29, 2015Place of Death: At Witham Memorial Hospital in Lebanon Mrs. Marjorie Claire (Engquist) Burris was born on August 9, 1930 in Chicago, Illinois, a daughter of the late Elmer and Charlotte (Snyder) Engquist. She graduated from North Park Academy in Chicago. Following high school, she attended MacMurray College for Women in Jacksonville, Illinois where she received her Bachelor of Arts degree in Kindergarten – Primary Education. She had taught 3rd grade in Muskegon Heights, Michigan and then returned to Illinois to teach in Arlington Heights. Marjorie met the love of her life, Ralph Burris, at a church picnic. The two were married on November 30, 1957 at Christ Presbyterian Church in Chicago. In 1966, they moved to Lebanon, Indiana, where she returned to teaching at Stokes Elementary until her retirement. In Lebanon, Marjorie was active in the First Presbyterian Church teaching Sunday school, singing in the choir, the Presbyterian Women’s Club, and she was an ordained Deacon. She loved being with her grandchildren as well as all the children she had taught through the years. Marjorie was a collector of bears of all types, she enjoyed Big Band music as well as traditional gospel music. Marjorie was a charter member of Alpha Delta Kappa (honorary teacher’s sorority), active in the Tourist Club, University Women, and Boone County Retired Teacher’s Association.Visitation will be held at Myers Mortuary, 1502 North Lebanon Street, in Lebanon, Indiana from 4:00 to 7:00 p.m. on Monday, February 2, 2015.Funeral Services are planned for 11:00 a.m. on Tuesday, February 3, 2015, at the funeral home in Lebanon, with Rev. Terri Thorn, officiating.Interment will follow services at Oak Hill Cemetery in Lebanon, Indiana.
