Martha E. (Hale) Parkhurst

Martha E. (Hale) Parkhurst went home to be with the Lord on Monday evening, November 7, 2016. She was born in Johnetta, Kentucky, the daughter of Elmer L. Hale and Emily E. (Griffie) Hale, on October 22, 1932. She was born one of eight children. Part of her childhood was spent in Kentucky and the rest was spent in Indiana. Martha met and married William E. Parkhust of Alexandria. They had five children, Linda S. Reagan, Triesha S. (Wayne) Abraham, Orval L. Parkhust, and E. Darlene (Mike) Williams, all of Lebanon, and Keith Reagan of Thorntown. Martha had twelve grandchildren, Keith Reagan, Jr. of Thorntown, Craig (Julie) Reagan, Eric (Courtney) Reagan, Tonya A. (Jake) Hamilton, and Trena A. (Criss) Stoggsdill, all of Lebanon, April (Adam) Landel of Indianapolis, Amanda Tincher of Noblesville, William Parkhust, III and Katie (David) Hess, of Thorntown, Michael Williams and Joshua Williams, of Lebanon. She had twenty-two great grandchildren and three great-great grandchildren. Martha was also survived by four sisters, Marjorie and Juanita Miller of Richmond, and Marzella Johnson and Norma Kouns, of Lebanon. She had several nieces and nephews. Martha was preceded in death by three brothers, Marshall R. Hale, Robert C. Hale, Randel E. Hale; four brothers-in-law, Leonard Johnson, Jess Miller, Raymond Miller and Steven Kouns; and a grandson, Wayne G. “A.J.” Abraham, III. Martha was a member of the Assembly of God Churches of Lebanon and Kirklin where she was involved with the Women’s Missionary. She was also a member of Glad Tidings Church of Brownsburg and Trinity Chapel of Thorntown. Through her life, she worked different jobs from managing the Dog & Suds in Lebanon to Stewart Warner, where she made mortar shells during the Vietnam War. Martha retired from Kauffman Engineering. She loved sewing, reading, camping, gardening, knitting, crocheting, and doing cross-word puzzles. Funeral Services are planned for 1:00 p.m., on Thursday, November 10, 2016, at Myers Mortuary, 1502 North Lebanon Street, in Lebanon, Indiana. Visitation will be begin at 11:00 a.m. until the time of the service on Thursday at the funeral home in Lebanon. Interment will follow services at Lincoln Memory Gardens in Whitestown, Indiana. Memorials may be made to the charity of the donor’s choice.
