Maxine Houchens

Doris Maxine Houchens, 93, passed away on Tuesday, July 5, 2016 at Crown Point Senior Living in Lebanon. She was born in Montgomery County, Indiana on June 21, 1923, a daughter of the late Hugh Ezra and Mary Ellen (Glascock) Rankin. She was a 1941 graduate of Linden High School and had attended Ball State University. On August 31, 1946, she was married to Robert Bridge Houchens in Lebanon. Mr. Houchens passed away on August 16, 2007. Maxine and her husband had resided in Indianapolis until 1963 and then moved to Clermont. In 1984 the family moved to Advance and in 1989 to Lebanon. Mrs. Houchens was employed as an office manager and bookkeeper for an insurance agency at Speedway, retiring in December 1984. She then volunteered in the Witham Hospital gift shop for six years. She enjoyed sewing, quilting, crocheting, shopping and reading. Maxine was a devoted wife, mother, and grandmother and loved her family dearly. Funeral Services will be held on 11:00 a.m., Friday, July 8, 2016 at St. Joseph’s Catholic Church, 319 East South Street, Lebanon, Indiana, with lunch following. Visitation will be held from 10:00 a.m. until the time of service Friday at the church in Lebanon. Interment will be held at a later date at the Waynetown Masonic Cemetery in Waynetown. Houchens and wife, Peggy – Zionsville, Indiana Four Grandchildren: Laura Tormey and husband, Michael – Raleigh, N.C. Paul Houchens and wife, Summer – Indianapolis, Indiana David Houchens and wife, Ellen – Columbus, Ohio Daniel Houchens and wife, Amanda – Zionsville, Indiana Great Grandchildren: Patrick Tormey Kailyn Houchens Kylie Houchens Julia Houchens Patrick Houchens James Houchens Michael Houchens Nieces: Linda Lee Mennen and husband, Harold Sue Ann Benham and husband, Shawn Betty Jean Miller and husband, Mark Sister-In-Law: Martha Rankin – Crawfordsville, Indiana Deceased: In addition to her parents and husband, Doris was preceded in death by a brother, Robert Lee Rankin.
