He was the son of the late Forrest Andrew and Gail Victoria (Lee) Vanlandingham. His father also died on Thursday, November 1, 2012.Reared and educated in Mankato, Minnesota, Richard was a 1958 graduate of Mankato High School. He then completed an Associates Degree at Mankato State College. While in college, he was an employee of Penney’s where he became manager of the store following graduation. He then managed stores in Winona, Anoka, andMinneapolis, Minnesota. He resided in Goodview, Minnesota, near Minneapolis prior to moving to manage the store in Rugby, North Dakota in 1972. He moved to Lebanon, Indiana, in 1980 and managed the J.C. Penney’s Store until it closed in 1990. He worked about ten years at Hendrickson Trailer Systems in Lebanon before retiring in 2005.He was formerly married to Cindy L. (Evans) Vanlandingham and they were divorced. His companion since 1990 has been Marjorie Theresa “Terre” Drummond.A devoted companion, father, and grandfather, Rich enjoyed his family. He also liked to fish, hunt, golf and play cards.
