Robert Earl Swisher

Robert Earl Swisher of Lebanon, died Monday, May 2, 2016 at Hickory Creek Nursing Home, following a lengthy illness. He was 81. Born February 7, 1935 in Boone County, he was a son of the late Wyvonne “Pete” and Mary Swisher. He married Rosemary Brush on November 24, 1957 and she died June 16, 2013. Mr. Swisher spent most of his life in the Dover and Advance areas. He graduated from Dover High School in 1953 and served in the Merchant Marines. He had worked in construction, farmed and worked at R.R. Donnelly & Sons in Crawfordsville for 39 years until his retirement in 1996. Following retirement he worked at Kauffman Engineering in Lebanon, Witham Hospital in Lebanon, Steel Dynamics in Pittsboro, and Hoosier Village in Zionsville. Mr. Swisher was a longtime member of Pleasant View Church and over the years had served as deacon, Sunday school superintendent and youth group leader. He had also been involved in the Boone County 4-H and Dover Little League. He had enjoyed woodworking, gardening, and following his children’s and grandchildren’s activities. Survivors include children Cindy Griffith and husband Jeff of Brownsburg, Scott Swisher and wife Katie of Crawfordsville, and Kathy Linton of Speedway; grandchildren Abby Cornwell and husband Aaron of Jamestown, Jesse Linton and fiancé Kristen Reeves of Lebanon, Cody Griffith and wife Mallory of Westfield, Jake Linton of Hot Springs, N.C., Reed Swisher of Indianapolis, and Mia Stadler of Crawfordsville; great-grandchildren Ashton Linton of Lebanon, Allie ,Max and Leo Cornwell of Jamestown, and Connor and Charlie Griffith of Westfield; Brothers and sisters-in-law, Don Swisher of Crawfordsville, Harold and Jane Swisher of Indianapolis, and Chuck and Pat Swisher of Savannah, Ill.; and many nieces, nephews and extended family members. Preceding him in death were a brother, Herschel Swisher; sisters-in-law, Dorene Swisher and Faye Swisher; sister- and brother-in-law, Patricia and Dale Bowen; and in-laws, Charles and Evelina Brush.
