Ron Smith

Mr. Lloyd Ronald “Ron” Smith, 70, passed away on Wednesday, January 18, 2017 at St. Vincent Hospital in Indianapolis, Indiana. He was born in Lebanon, Indiana, on August 24, 1946, the son of the late Lloyd George Smith and Kathryn Jacqueline “Jackie” (Baber) Smith. Beginning his teenage years and through his twenties, he was “poetry in motion” on a slalom ski traversing the waves of Lake Freeman. There was no one more athletic, graceful and so much fun to watch as Ron water skiing. Ron chose real estate as his lifelong profession. He was an incredible deal maker. Whether he was working on behalf of others, or for himself, Ron could work magic in bringing the buyer and seller together and close the transaction. Early in his career, Ron bought apartment buildings in Lebanon (Headley Apartments and Brendonwood Apartments) and successfully converted them into condominiums. Later, Ron was also in charge of converting the Koala Center on Lafayette Avenue into 25 garden homes, a huge project. Ron had also lived and worked in Kentucky from 1982 to 2001 and was active in all areas of the oil business. His deal making skills honed in Indiana real estate were effective in the oil fields of Kentucky as well. Ron would often communicate his ideas to people or clients with stories. These stories were generally humorous, but always effective and certainly kept the listener’s attention. His humble spirit was admired by all who knew him. Ron was loved by so many and will be sorely missed by family, friends, and the community. However, much comfort is gained as The Apostle Paul indicated this about the death of a believer: “It is preferable to be away from the body (death) and at home with the Lord.” (II Corinthians 5) We are confident that Ron is at home with the Lord and rejoicing at a reunion with his parents, sister Susie, and many others. Funeral Services are planned for Saturday, January 21, 2017 at 10:30 a.m. at Myers Mortuary, 1502 North Lebanon Street, in Lebanon, Indiana. Visitation will be held from 4:00 to 8:00 p.m. on Friday, January 20, 2017 at the funeral home in Lebanon. Burial of Ashes will be held at a later date at Oak Hill Cemetery in Lebanon, Indiana.
