Vicki A. Saalwaechter

Mrs. Vicki Ann (Cornell) Saalwaechter, 63, of Thorntown, Indiana, passed away Tuesday evening, November 10, 2020, at St. Vincent Hospital in Indianapolis after battling Covid-19. She was born November 18, 1956 in Flint, Michigan, a daughter of the late Fort Wayne Cornell and Mary Irene (Hawkins) Cornell Lignitz McDonald. On October 16, 1999, she was married to John Jacob Saalwaechter, M.D. in Milledgeville, Indiana; he survives. They had recently celebrated 21 wonderful years together. A longtime resident of Michigan, Vicki was a 1974 graduate of Davison High School. She earned a B.A. in Social Work at the University of Michigan at Flint and then earned a Master of Science in 1981 at Bob Jones University. She was employed as a social worker and taught at Annisville Christian Academy in Pennsylvania prior to being employed for 12 years in Communications at HealthPlus of Michigan. In 1999, she moved to Boone County, Indiana where she has continuously resided except for seven years when she and John resided in Flint, Michigan. Vicki was a devoted wife, stepmother, and grandmother. She loved her family dearly and was a caring and thoughtful friend to many. She was a dedicated member of Centenary United Methodist Church and served on the Board of Directors for Shalom House, both in Lebanon, Indiana. Vicki and John enjoyed traveling near and far. They enjoyed traveling with their friends through the Hoosier Cruisers, Family Motor Coach Association. In her down time, Vicki found great joy in gardening, feeding hummingbirds and spending time with her friends in her church card club. Survivors include her husband, Dr. John J. Saalwaechter of Thorntown; three stepchildren, Jennifer S. Stogsdill of Lebanon, John Wesley (Susie) Saalwaechter of Seattle, and Amy R. Vyain of Lebanon; six grandchildren, Kevin Saalwaechter, Michael Saalwaechter, Kailyn Stogsdill, Summer Stogsdill, Hannah Vyain, and Reeder Vyain; two brothers, Gary (Marie) Cornell of Traverse City, Michigan and Gregory (Leslie) Cornell of Barryton, Michigan; one sister, Nancy (Wayne) Wade of Davison, Michigan; and several nieces and nephews. In addition to her parents, Vicki was preceded in death by a brother, Dennis Allen Cornell; and a granddaughter in infancy, Kathryn Saalwaechter. Funeral Services are planned for 1:00 p.m. on Monday, November 16, 2020, at Myers Mortuary, 1502 North Lebanon Street, in Lebanon, Indiana, with Pastor Peter Curts, officiating. The family will receive visitors beginning 11:00 a.m. and asks that masks be worn and social distancing practiced. Services will be live-streamed on the Myers Mortuary Facebook page for those viewing at home. Graveside Services will take place 1:00 p.m. on Saturday, November 21, 2020, at Evergreen Cemetery in Grand Blanc, Michigan. In lieu of flowers, memorials may be made in her memory to the charity of the donor’s choice.
