Virginia Hickey

Virginia Irene Hickey, formerly of Jacksonville, IL, passed away on May 29, 2023 at Homewood Healthcare Facility in Boone County, IN. She was a beloved mother, mother-in-law, grandmother, and great-grandmother. She born on January 4, 1928, daughter of George Andrew and Agnes May Sheeley Waggener. She married Verl J. Hickey on July 11, 1948. He, sadly, preceded her in death in 2012. She is survived by one daughter, Wanda (Ritchie) Hoffman of Boone County, Indiana. One granddaughter, Christa (Kevin) Morton, and one great-granddaughter, all from Boone County, Indiana. Preceding her in death was her very beloved son, Gary Wayne Hickey. She was also preceded in death by her parents, all her siblings, one great-granddaughter, and one great-grandson. She was the last of her siblings to survive. Virginia attended Union Grove Grade School. Then she graduated from Jacksonville High School in 1945. She and her husband were faithful members of Central Christian Church in Jacksonville where they served on many committees. They were co-chairs of the Membership Committee for many years. They loved to travel and they loved playing pinochle with their special group of friends for over 35 years. She served as the PTA President of Lincoln Elementary while her children attended there. She worked for a short amount of time at Merle Fox Photography. She loved to send cards to people for special occasions. She loved to plant flowers and tend to them. She took great pride in being a wife, mother, grandmother, and great-grandmother! She also loved taking care of her lovely home. She especially loved spending time with her family in Boone County, Indiana. Her family in Indiana was so happy and grateful to have her near to them at last! Her family would like to thank her caregivers in Jacksonville: Lana Early and Jacque McDaniel. They provided her with wonderful care, assistance, and communication. Once she moved to Indiana, Homewood Healthcare Facility was a blessing as she received such quality care while there. Everyone was caring and everyone loved Virginia! Memorials are suggested to Central Christian Church in Jacksonville, IL. After a very loving and private service, our beloved one was laid to rest in Diamond Grove Cemetery.
