Charles Lynn “Chuck” Hoover, 74, passed away peacefully at St. Vincent Hospital in Indianapolis on Thursday, April 22, 2021. He was born on March 19,1947 in Fort Wayne, Indiana; a son of the late Dick and Betty (Batdorf) Hoover. He graduated from high school in Fort Wayne. In 1967 he married Jean (McKinney) Hoover in Fort Wayne and she survives. Chuck worked for Willard Weese and Marvin Slagle at their garage and service stations. He then owned and operated Dover Marathon and Thorntown Sunoco. He also drove a school bus #13 for Western Boone Schools for several years and was a driver for Frito Lay. Later in life he ran his own auto repair shop, “Hoover Automotive” from his home. He was hard-working and a dedicated family man, who loved the simple things in life. He enjoyed sprint car racing, boating, camping, cherished his family and was known as “Pappy” by all his great grandkids. Survivors include his wife, Jean Hoover of Thorntown; two daughters, Diana (Tom) Oldham of Thorntown and Annette F. Martinez of Thorntown; six grandchildren: Andrew Martinez, Danielle (Dustin) Anderson, Haleigh (Vince) Smith, Megan (Jami) Oldham, Carly (Ben) Junkins, Dane (Jen) Oldham; great grandchildren: Jace and Jaxon Anderson, Maxwell and Mia Smith, Everett and Simon Junkins, Vera, Kate and Stella Oldham; two brothers: Michael (Colleen) Hoover of Elkhart and Lynn Hoover of Fort Wayne and stepmother, Carol Hoover of Fort Wayne. In addition to his parents, Chuck was preceded in death by a grandson David Martinez, Jr.; siblings, Pat Irish and Richard Hoover, Jr. Visitation is planned from 4:00 p.m. to 7:00 p.m. on Monday, April 26, 2021 at Myers Mortuary, 1502 North Lebanon Street, in Lebanon, Indiana. Funeral Services will be held at 10:30 a.m. on Tuesday, April 27, at the funeral home in Lebanon. Interment will follow services at Maple Lawn Cemetery in Thorntown. Memorials may be directed to the charity of the donor’s choice or the American Heart Association.
