Danny Dane Walker, 89, passed away on August 3, 2020 at Witham Memorial Hospital in Lebanon, Indiana. He was born on December 29, 1930 in Boone County, Indiana, a son of the late Wayne G. and Mary Lucille (Adams) Walker. He was a 1949 graduate of Jackson Township High School. He married Julia A. “Judy” (Ragsdale) Walker on the Ragsdale family farm on November 17, 1949. They had recently celebrated 70 loving years together. He served in the National Guard early in their marriage. Dane was a livestock dealer continuing in some capacity of the business all his life. He, his father, and brother owned and operated the Boone County Sale Barn in Lebanon for several years. Dane renamed it the Boone County Livestock Center, Inc. when he became the sole owner. He was a member of Elks Lodge #635, being awarded Elk of the Year during his membership with them, and former member of American Legion #610 in Lebanon. When he was a trustee at the Elks, he was in charge of the kitchen. Due to that experience he collected and perfected many different recipes continuing to cook and share with family and friends even up to the day before he became ill. Dane and Judy became involved with the Boone County Cancer Society when their daughter, Diann, was diagnosed with breast cancer and received several awards over the years for their philanthropic efforts. Among them are the Indiana Pacers Indiana Heroes award, Aaron Stookey Spirit of Philanthropy, Sagamore of the Wabash and July 4th Parade Marshalls. They held their Annual Cancer Benefit for 17 years with all proceeds going to the Boone County Cancer Society. At their last benefit in November 2019, they included the celebration of their 70th wedding anniversary asking that in lieu of gifts donations be made to BCCS. At this benefit they exceeded their goal of raising $300,000 in the 17 years they had done the benefits. Dane was well-known for his pickles.
