She was a daughter of the late Ora McNeil and Iva Pearl (Parsons) Harshman. In 1934, Mrs. Ferguson graduated from Colfax High School. She passed courses to become a nursing aide and from 1967 to 1980 she was employed with Witham Memorial Hospital. Following her work at the hospital, for the next two years she was a private duty nursing aide. On June 2, 1934, Doris was married to Lotes Emerson Ferguson in Clinton County, Indiana. After 41 years of marriage Emerson passed away July 23, 1975.Following their marriage the couple spent three years in Flint, Michigan before returning to Clinton County north of Frankfort where they farmed. They then moved to Boone County near rural Sheridan where they continued farming. From 1947 to 1953, they were residents of Rushville, Indiana. Mrs. Ferguson was a devoted wife, mother and grandmother to her family. She enjoyed working with ceramics.
