Age: 87 Widowed City of Residence: Thorntown, IndianaDate of Death: Sunday, July 20, 2014Place of Death: At Homewood Health Campus in Lebanon, IndianaMr. Eugene Lavon “Gene” Louks was born in Boone County, Indiana on November 18, 1926, a son of the late Ancil Gerald Louks and Ida Susie (Wright) Louks Brakefield. On January 3, 1945, he enlisted in the United States Army and served his country during WWII until October 1946 when he was honorably discharged as a Corporal. Having met in Germany during WWII, he found the love of his life and was married on June 21, 1947, in Thorntown, Indiana, to Elsa Louisa Maria (Wegewarth) Louks. She preceded him in death on July 16, 1998. Gene was a life-resident of Thorntown, Indiana. He owned and operated a livestock truck for many years and for a period of time worked for Midwest Oil Transit out of Indianapolis. He was a devoted husband, father and grandfather and enjoyed his family. He had a fondness for dogs, his most recent dog was named Rusty. Gene also had a passion for tractors and enjoyed being a member of the Boone County Antique Tractor Club. Memberships: Thorntown Christian Church Funeral Services will be held at 10:30 a.m. on Friday, July 25, 2014, at Myers Mortuary, 1502 North Lebanon Street, in Lebanon, Indiana. Visitation is planned for Thursday, July 24, 2014, from 4:00 to 8:00 p.m. at the funeral home in Lebanon.Interment with military rites will follow services at Oak Hill Cemetery in Lebanon.
