Banter was born Marion, Indiana, on October 28, 1932, the son of the late Jay N. and Lola (Welsh) Banter. He had attended schools in the Marion community. Following school, Joseph joined the United States Marine Corp. and served his country honorably. On September 13, 1985, he was married to Jane (Reagan) Banter. Mrs. Banter survives. For the past twenty-eight years, Joseph lived in Hillisburg. He worked as a diesel mechanic for Norfolk & Southern Railroad. He was a co-owner of Midway Tavern in Frankfort and also a co-owner of Mom’s Café in Michigantown. As a devoted husband father, grandfather, and great grandfather, he enjoyed his family. He loved to tinker with his lawnmower and enjoyed watching the Indiana Pacers. Mr. Banter had a fondness of trains. Memberships: Hillisburg United Methodist Church Funeral Services will be held at Myers Mortuary, 1502 North Lebanon Street, in Lebanon, Indiana, at 12:00 p.m. on Monday, March 17, 2014, with Rev. Mike Flowers, officiating.Visitation is planned for Monday, March 17, 2014, from 10:00 a.m. to noon at the funeral home in Lebanon.Interment with military rites will follow services at Cox Cemetery in Thorntown, Indiana.
