Kathleen Merson

Kathleen Merson passed away on Saturday, February 28, 2015 after a long and happy life. She was born near Plainfield, IN on December 10, 1928 to John Harold and Daisy Belle (Bybee) Prewitt. She graduated from Plainfield High School with honors. In 1950 she married Glenn H. Merson in Camby, IN. They shared 58 good years together before his death in 2008. She was a life-long learner and a wise and just mother to her five children. Kathleen farmed her entire life, first with her father, then her husband and son. She also worked at Kroger for 20+ years. She was a 62-year member of the Sugar Creek Home Economics Club and always enjoyed participating in the Boone Co. Fair. She also held memberships in the Hoosier Heritage Quilt Guild, American Legion Auxiliary, and Boone County Antique Tractor Club, and was an active member of Pleasant View Christian Church. Spending time with her family, quilting, reading, creative writing, and playing cards were things that she took pleasure in. In her long life she was never without a faithful dog, most recently, Sadie. Kathleen was preceded in death by a brother, Thomas A. Prewitt. She will be missed by her family and those who knew her. Her children are: Ruth Ann (Dennis) Gerkin, Mitchell, IN, Margaret (Charles) Carter, Thorntown, Patricia Merson (Robert) Fugate, Atlanta, GA, Starr (Martin) Atwell, Columbus, IN, and John I. Merson, Thorntown. Grandchildren: Whitney Dunahee, Ashley Roberts, John Gerkin, Kimberly Moore, Kelly MacKinnon, Douglas Carter, Kathleen Ireland, Lt. Peter M. Fugate, John M. Fugate, Milan Atwell, Adri Senecal, and 24 great grandchildren. Funeral Services are planned for 12:00 p.m. on Thursday, March 5, 2015, at Myers Mortuary, 1502 North Lebanon Street, in Lebanon, Indiana, with Pastor Tom Evans, officiating. Visitation will be held from 4:00 to 8:00 p.m. on Wednesday, March 4, 2015, and again at 11:00 a.m. until the time of the service on Thursday at the funeral home in Lebanon.
