Johnson, Jr. was born in Nashville, Tennessee, on March 18, 1929, a son of the late Leona L. (Hatfield) and Leonard D. Johnson, Sr. He was reared and educated in Nashville, Tennessee before enlisting in the United States Army. After serving his country honorably, he moved to Indiana.On October 24, 1987, in Lebanon, he was married to Carolyn G. (Walls) Johnson; she survives. He was previously married to Irene (Oaks) Johnson, she preceded him in death.Leonard worked for International Harvester as a line worker for thirty years. He retired in 1985 and during retirement he worked at several part-time jobs.He was a devoted husband, father, grandfather and great grandfather. He enjoyed the time spent with his family and in his spare time, he liked to do woodworking.
