Martin, Sr. was born on August 30, 1935, went home to be with his Lord on Thursday evening, April 24, 2014 while at St. Vincent Seton Specialty Hospital in Indianapolis with his wife, Nellie, by his side. Lester was the son of Lester and Marguerite (Snow) Martin, both deceased. He was 78 years old. He graduated from Shadeland High School in Tippecanoe County and went on to attend Purdue University. He was first married to Sandra Townsley and they were divorced. He then married Nellie (Deane) Alford in 1969 in Lebanon, Indiana. Lester was employed at several factories in Lafayette in his younger years as well as building pole barns with his father and brother. In 1963, he was employed by Commercial Filters in Lebanon and retired from there in 1991. He then started his own electrical business, Martin’s Fix-It Electric, and operated it thru 2012 at which time he retired again. He enjoyed sports, having played softball as an adult, golf and bowling. He was an avid bowler, reaching his goal to bowl in the International Tournament for 25 years, but was unable to accomplish his goal to bowl for 50 consecutive years overall. He was a member of the Lebanon Bowling Hall of Fame. Lester was a member of the Lebanon Fraternal Order of Eagles and Lebanon Moose for many years. He was a dedicated family man. He took an interest in the activities of his children, grandchildren, and great grandchildren and loved seeing all of them. Funeral Services are to be held at 1:00 p.m. on Tuesday, April 29, 2014, at Myers Chapel of Memories, 1502 North Lebanon Street, in Lebanon, Indiana, with Pastor Matt Skiles, officiating.Visitation is planned from 11:00 to 1:00 p.m. on Tuesday, April 29, 2014, at the funeral home in Lebanon.Interment will follow services at Maple Lawn Cemetery in Thorntown, Indiana.
