Mary Rose Walker

Mary Rose Walker, 88, of Frankfort, passed away on Thursday, March 9, 2017 at Homewood Health Campus in Lebanon, Indiana. She was born in Martinsville, Indiana, on June 30, 1928, a daughter of the late Griffith L. and Dessie E. (Manley) Burkett. She was a 1945 graduate of Martinsville High School. Following high school, she attended college in Omaha, Nebraska. On June 21, 1962, she was married to Jerry Lee Walker, in Martinsville, Indiana. Jerry passed away on October 16, 2014. Mary had worked for Indiana Bell in Martinsville, Bloomington, Crawfordsville, Frankfort and Vincennes for twenty-two years as dial service supervisor. After retiring from the telephone company, Mary enjoyed being a homemaker and volunteering at the Frankfort Boys and Girls Club as well as a Golden Lady Volunteer at many area nursing homes and hospitals. She was a devoted mother, grandmother and sister. Mary enjoyed drawing, painting, writing poems, and ceramics. She was a member of the Alpha & Omega Bible study, Telephone Pioneers Club and a 32 year member of the Mechanicsburg Christian Church. Funeral Services are to be held on Tuesday, March 14, 2017, at 10:30 a.m., at Myers Mortuary, 1502 North Lebanon Street, in Lebanon, Indiana. Visitation will be held from 4:00 to 7:00 p.m. on Monday, March 13, 2017 at the funeral home in Lebanon. Interment will follow services at Oak Hill Cemetery in Lebanon, Indiana. Survivors: Son: John Walker – Frankfort, Indiana Three Grandchildren: Joshua Potts Ashley Potts Zachary Potts Sister: Shirley Ann Lockman – Plainfield, Indiana Sisters-In-Law: Barbara Walker – Sheridan, Indiana Reva Ward – Brownsburg, Indiana Jane Burkett - Brownsburg, Indiana Brothers-In-Law: Tom Walker – Kokomo, Indiana Adrian Stanger – Martinsville, Indiana Several Nieces and Nephews In addition to her parents and husband, Mary was preceded in death by a daughter, Connie Potts; two brothers, Robert Burkett and James Burkett; three sisters, Vivian Stanger, Betty Maxine Lucy and Frances Davis; two sisters-in-law, Dorothy Walker and Helen Newkirk; and five brothers-in-law, George Walker, Ted Ward, Lloyd Newkirk, Fred Davis, and Richard Blunk. Memorials may be made in her honor to the Mechanicsburg Christian Church, 650 West Horton Road, Kirklin, Indiana 46050.
