Wanda J. Hohenberger

Wanda June (Theobald) Hohenberger, 85, passed peacefully January 18, 2015. Married 68 years to J. George Hohenberger, who recently passed, Wanda was mother of John (Sue) Hohenberger, of Leland, IL; and daughters Lara Beth (Bill) Sheets of Fort Collins, CO; and Leah (Jon) Davis of Albany, NY. She is also survived by nine grandchildren and five great-grandchildren. Born in Shelbyville, Indiana, daughter of Vivian (Bird) and Wallace Theobald, she was preceded in death by both parents as well as her sister, Avonelle (Wayne) Branson. Wanda is survived by her sister Carris (James) Lucas of Portage, IN, and her brother, Keith (Jan) Theobald of Shelbyville, IN. Wanda partnered with George in their livestock and grain production. She enjoyed farm life as well as sewing, gardening, and flower arranging. She was passionate about educational opportunities for her children, enabling them to take advantage of 4-H, Boy Scouts, and various music lessons, as well as opportunities for higher education.Being an amateur naturalist, Wanda enjoyed noting the habits of wildlife, collecting birds' nests, and observing the differences in rocks, shells, and soils.After 1982, she traveled widely visiting over 20 countries, and took excursions on The Orient Express, The Queen Elizabeth II, and The Concorde. Her photographer's eye matured over time and many of her photos are enjoyed as framed prints.Trusting Jesus Christ as her Lord and Savior, she was a moral force both at home and when she traveled. She often spoke up when a word was needed to highlight God and His part in our lives. She prepared the communion elements for twenty years at the Thorntown United Methodist Church, where she had been a member since 1963.Funeral Services are planned for Saturday, January 24, 2015, at 2:00 p.m. at Myers Mortuary, 1502 North Lebanon Street, in Lebanon, Indiana, with Rev. Karen Ottjes, officiating.Visitation will be held on Saturday, January 24, 2015, from 12:30 to 2:00 p.m. at the funeral home in Lebanon.Interment will follow services at Forest Hill Cemetery in Shelbyville, Indiana.Memorial contributions may be made to Thorntown United Methodist Church or AlisonsChoice.com a non-profit, pro-life movie currently in production.
